Les Nuits de Chéronne : from pedagogy to stage
Created in 2011 by the reputed vocal
coach, Raphael Sikorski, “Les Nuits de Chéronne” festival is, more than
anything, a festival highlighting the pedagogy of singing.
In the luxurious setting of Chéronne
castle, 16 advanced level or professional singers from France and the rest of
Europe will work under Raphael Sikorski ‘s
watchful eye on their vocal technique and repertoire, assisted by a
choral director and piano accompanist. This master class allows singers to
prepare their repertoire in a calm and
serene setting. From the coursework of this week, two concerts will be
performed, offering the opportunity to the artists to present the result of
their pedagogical work to the public.
Raphael Sikorski’s work being based on the pedagogy of the voice; his goal has
always been to put together a team which
could showcase the different aspects of a singer’s work including vocal technique,
work on the repertoire with the pianist collaborator, work with the director,
lighting, costumes, etc.
Nonetheless, this is no mere
conservatory exercise. All of the students are young professionals at the
beginning of their careers. Some of them come from the Opera-Comique or have
been training with Raphael Sikorski. Others are selected during auditions.
